Is the desire to change the self a product of evolution, a social transmission, or an anomalous side-effect?
Q. This is something that seems to be stunted in me. I don't wish to be anything. That doesn't mean I'm a satisfied person. A. I believe it starts with the creatve ability of the human mind. To wonder what a different existence would be like. The wonder dreated by the beauty of so many other things that exist, or even simply different situations, leads to the desire to feel that other existence. I have known people of little creatve ability. They are happy with thier lot in life, due in much part by thier lack of ability and desire to see themselves in a postion other than they possess. Sometimes this is social. In some societies the creative use of seeing beyond ones postion is "programmed" out of the individual by training them to see that tier lot is best for everyone overall.

A. I'm a believer. I've seen dragons... Well, Ok, I've seen 2 dragons and it was only for around 2 seconds, but I know what I've seen. I've also seen a faerie once. It wasn't detailed. It was a small human shape with a purplish colour and it was emitting purplish light. I was in bed at that moment and it didn't even occur to me to walk to it. Geez, I'm so stupid... I just thought: "Hey that's pretty and cool." And I tried to sleep... I've also made Psi-balls, but I don't know if you can consider that paranormal. I also heard about how the docters weighed someone while dying. When a person dies all movement in the body stops and more things change. That also makes the person weigh less, so I'm not convinced that it was a person's soul. I… [cont.]

Thous shouldst read this, people of the year 2006!?
Q. I have come through an anomalous hole in time and space, traveling into the American civilization of the 21st century from my home of twelfth century England. I was sneaking up on a large dragon, mace in hand, when it turned around and sneezed, vibrating each particle of my body into the fourth dimension. Needless to say, this was an interesting experience. When I escaped the fourth dimension, I was here. Can anybody help me get back home?
Asked by The Voice of Logic - Thu Feb 9 19:47:40 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The dragon is still alive, and you need to contact him. He is currently taking antihistamines (it turns out he's allergic to humans, which is why he sneezed in the first place) and you'll need to let him know he needs to stop for a day or two before you get there. Or instead, you could bring a 'can' of mace (pepper spray) which might get him to sneeze again too. This won't help any, as you'll just be propelled into the future another 9 centuries, but there'll be this guy in Cleveland OHIO who can help you out when you get there (he will invent a time machine.) He helped me out the last time that happened to me.

Is religiosity in correlation with intelligence (analytical, emotional, etc.)?
Q. According to the following articles, the more a person is religious, the more likely they have lower than average intelligence. Why does this correlation exist? The first answer that comes to my mind is that religious beliefs tend to be more illogical or incoherent than secular beliefs, and intelligent people tend to recognize that more quickly. A possible counter-argument is that intelligent people tend to be more successful than others. The lure of worldly success and materialism draws many of these intellectually gifted individuals away from God. After all, who needs God when you (apparently) are making it on your own? Could anyone who is religious explain this with a counter-argument with a cited scientific article which is peer-revie [cont.]

Q. such as hearing voices, seeing holy images etc are considered delusional. or do you believe that each and every religious event is a sign from god? In clinical practice, no clear guidelines exist to distinguish between "normal" religious beliefs and "pathological" religious delusions. Historically, psychiatrists such as Freud have suggested that all religious beliefs are delusional, while the current DSM-IV definition of delusion exempts religious doctrine from pathology altogether. From an individual standpoint, a dimensional approach to delusional thinking (emphasizing conviction, preoccupation, and extension rather than content) may be useful in examining what is and is not pathological. It's all tradition. Our ancestors beleived it and once society became smarter we could never let it go because of how attatched we had become. This phenomenon, called "Sleep Paralysis" or an "Old Hag" experience, can be quite frightening. It usually occurs on the borderline between sleep and waking. Sufferers describe feeling totally mentally awake, yet feeling unable to move or call out, and often, feeling a heavy weight pressing down on their chests. Sometimes, these sensations are coupled with the vague perception of an "evil presence" in the room. Scientists theorize that such experiences are probably caused by the brain and body being slightly "out of sync" with regard to sleep/wake functions. A. I think you pointed to the solution in your own question when you said, "I am very unaware in social situations..." The key to good social skills is good listening skills and showing that you are engaged in the conversation. Find out why you tune out in conversations. Is it that you are uninterested, do you have ADD or is there some other reason? Try to engage yourself in a conversation by reiterating what the other is saying in your own words and try to relate it to yourself. It will make you more interested in whatever the discussion is about. I used to be very disengaged and uninterested in conversations until I became more involved and tried to not just benefit from what other people are saying but to also help contribute from my own… [cont.]

A. The idea that there are only two possible orientations, straight and gay, and that individuals must be exclusively one or the other is largely a fabrication of the medieval Christian Churches. Observational and historical evidence makes clear that people have been going both ways world wide as long as humans have been around, and that such behavior predates humanity since it can and has been observed in hundreds of non-human species as well, from primates to worms. It was for this reason that sex researcher Alfred Kinsey created a sliding scale of preference ranging from totally straight to totally gay and believed that people at either extreme are actually extremely rare. I haven't had any trouble with the typical peeling, redness, irritation and rash effects that many people complain of, but in the last month, I have experienced multiple red marks arising on my body in areas where I am not using the Retin-A. For the medical folks: the marks are approximately one-inch diameter, roughly circular / elliptical / ovular, non-raised, angiomas or petechiae, primarily popping up on my calves. Does anyone know the history of using Red / Green for signalling? (Colour Blindness question.)?

Anyone who has experienced anything similar to this will know how horribly frustrating it is. Does anyone know the history of using Red and Green lights for signalling in seafaring and aviation? It just seems crazy, when something like 8% of all men have a R/G deficiency. Most of these are anomalous trichromats (ie they see all 3 primary colours, just slightly differently to everyone else), so it would have been easy to invent a system using Blue / Yellow for example. Asked by Jon S - Fri Dec 11 11:13:39 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, the signaling system is based on the refractive index of the colors. When light passes through one side of a prism,a spectrum is formed.Red on the top then orange, yellow, green etc...red can be seen from a far distance than yellow and green. So red is placed on the top, yellow in the middle and green in the bottom...very few people really interested in such type of questions. "Visible light" corresponds to a wavelength range of 400-700 nanometers and a color range of violet through red.The visible colors from shortest to longest wavelength are violet, blue, green, yellow, orange and red.Yellow is natural color(sunlight). Red and orange are similar so two colors i.e.red and green with highest wavelength are used in any signaling system.

A. I tend to think skeptics aren't open minded and searching, or they are not ready to discover, or they are too distracted. If they are genuinely searching for physical evidence of metaphysical then they are deluded and probably soap boxers. I am open minded and searching and have found enough to satisfy myself. So your answer is a true skeptic will never be satisfied. If you want to find something stop looking for it, and look at everything - so the context and periphery can empower your awareness.
