A library is a collection of sources, resources, and services, and the structure in which it is housed; it is organized for use and maintained by a public body, an institution, or a private individual. In the more traditional sense, a library is a collection of books. It can mean the collection, the building or room that houses such a collection, or both. The term "library" has itself acquired a secondary meaning: "a collection of useful material for common use." This sense is used in fields such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, electronics and biology. It can also be used by publishers in naming series of related books, e.g. The Library of Anglo-Catholic Theology. Libraries often provide a place of silence for studying. Public and institutional collections and services may be intended for use by people who choose not to — or cannot afford to — purchase an extensive collection themselves, who need material no individual can reasonably be expected to have, or who require professional assistance with their research. In addition to providing materials, libraries also provide the services of librarians who are experts at finding and organizing information and at interpreting information needs. However, with the sets and collection of media and of media other than books for storing information, many libraries are now also repositories and access points for maps, prints, or other documents and various storage media such as microform (microfilm/microfiche), audio tapes, CDs, cassettes, videotapes, DVDs, and video games. Libraries may also provide public facilities to access subscription databases and the Internet. Thus, modern libraries are increasingly being redefined as places to get unrestricted access to information in many formats and from many sources. They are understood as extending beyond the physical walls of a building, by including material accessible by electronic means, and by providing the assistance of librarians in navigating and analyzing tremendous amounts of information with a variety of digital tools. When you say it's another library in the same system, do you mean something like a different branch of the same city or county library? "Systems" can mean different things to different groups of libraries. In some cases, "systems" can be very loosely-organized groups or very centralized organizations throughout a region. The more closely organized a system is (like a city or county system), the more likely they're going to have a delivery system that can get items returned between branches/libraries. Still, most libraries have some way to make sure that books delivered to the wrong location get sent back to the right place, so having them be… [cont.] Answered by Bill Pardue--Librarian - Sun Feb 21 15:52:31 2010 How can I add multiple iTunes libraries to my iPod? Q. I've got multiple iTunes libraries on my Mac. One for my music CDs, one for Holiday CDs and another for my comedy CDs. I choose a particular iTunes library on my Mac by doing the old "option + open app" trick. How can I move all of my iTunes libraries to my iPod? Assuming that's possible, on my iPod how can I select which library I want to listen to? Asked by 7blades - Wed Mar 14 11:35:41 2007 - - 0 Answers - 0 Comments A. You would have to separate them in to different playlists in one single instance of iTunes in order for you to listen to all three libraries on your iPod. Q. 2 Ipod, one computer account. How can we have 2 itunes libraries on 1 computer? Asked by Ceri - Sat May 29 09:41:38 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well you can't have 2 libraries but you can make a playlist and control what songs go on each ipod. So it's kinda like having 2 libraries but not technically. Hope this helps :) Answered by Tess - Sun May 30 17:14:34 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Libraries" LibrariesFrom Wikiquote Jump to: navigation, searchA library is a collection of information resources and services, organized for use, and maintained by a public body, institution, or private individual.
