The concept of personhood (who is a person within a society) is the fundamental component of any selective concept of people. A distinction is maintained in philosophy and law between the notions "human being", or "man", and "person". The former refers to the species, while the latter refers to a rational agent (see, for example, John Locke's Essay concerning Human Understanding II 27 and Immanuel Kant's Introduction to the Metaphysic of Morals). Central issues of interest to people are the understanding of the human condition and the meaning of life, and survival. Religion, philosophy, and science show or represent modes and aspects of inquiry which attempt to investigate and understand the nature, behavior, and purpose of people. Sociology, economics, and politics represent modes by which people investigate how to maximize a collective survival strategy. Islam recognizes the People of the Book as members of monotheistic faiths founded upon revelation related to its own faith. By contrast, in Judaism, the Jews are often said to be the chosen people, a concept modified by the Christian doctrine of the Elect. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "People" Do people understand the difference between LOCAL and FEDERAL government? Q. I see people on here that rant on and on about health care justifying it by having schools, firefighters, police etc. Do people realize that these are at the local and state level and NOT the federal level. When me town talks about the police, firefighters and schools (which I might add we are an independent school here) we do it at the city council meeting and the people in the town decide what to do, not some Washington bureaucrat. I am curious about how often people usually keep their carpeting in their house. I know some people keep their carpet until it has a few stains and some people keep their carpet until it has spots all over, 'traffic lines', etc. How long do people usually keep their carpet before they replace it? How many years would you figure? Asked by q_and_a000 - Sun Feb 4 17:26:29 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. It is 5 to 7 years for cheep carpet and 10 to 20 for quality carpet. however if you can afford the quality carpet your probably changing it anytime you want. Answered by Kelly L - Sun Feb 4 17:56:42 2007 What do people think about a career as a careers guidance counsellor for young people?
Q. I'm thinking about a career in careers guidance counselling (in England) which I know now falls under the Connexions service. I was just wondering what people thought about it as a career. Is it rewarding? Having already worked in social services I am aware of the difficult people that you deal with but what I want to know do you feel as though you're making a difference and is it worthwhile? Asked by Marianne - Fri Mar 9 14:09:55 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I have a son due to leave school in May. I worry every day about him getting off to a good start and finding a worthwhile job. He has a hip problem, he is not above average academically but he is loyal, honest and hardworking. I hope with all my heart that there is someone at Connexions who cares enough to help him make a start in life as an adult, particularly because I do not live in England so what I can do for him is very limited. I am 55 and I still remember with appreciation what the youth employment service did to find work for me when I left school. If you are the kind of person who gains satisfaction from playing a pivotal role in making a start in life for young adults then there can be few jobs more important.
