There are various Egyptian hieroglyphs that might have inspired this. In Semitic, Ancient Greek, and Latin, the letter represented /d/; in the Etruscan alphabet the letter was superfluous but still retained (see letter B). The equivalent Greek letter is Delta, ‹Δ›. The minuscule (lower-case) form of ‹d› consists of a loop and a tall vertical stroke. It developed by gradual variations on the majuscule (capital) form. In handwriting, it was common to start the arc to the left of the vertical stroke, resulting in a serif at the top of the arc. Well, the answer is pretty obvious - yes, it will affect your chances. It's going to bring your GPA down. And the colleges won't get your senior year grades until very late in the screening process, so they may have already eliminated your app by the time they could see an "A" in that course. However, what's done is done, so there's no sense in worrying about it. Make sure you keep your other grades up. As long as you have a decent GPA and good SATs you'll get in somewhere.
