What is the percentage g in which the pocket of oil on earth would differ from the value g of Earth?
Q. The center of a 1.00 km diameter spherical pocket of oil is 1.00 km beneath the earth's surface. Estimate by what percentage g directly above the pocket of oil would differ from the expected value of g for a uniform earth. Assume the density of oil is 8.0*10^2 (kg/m^3). Thank you! I'm new to physics so any help would be appreciated.

A. Hello, If the center of the pocket is 1 km below ground, and the diameter is 1 km then the top of the pocket of oil is 0.5 km below the surface. This is the point where we are interested in the gravity. Now the force of gravity is from this equation F = G (m1 + m2) / r^2 But since they want a percentage, which is a RATIO, most of stuff will cancel out and you will be left with Ratio = (1/(r-0.5 km)^2) / (1/r^2) Ratio = r^2 / (r^2 - 0.5km) I can't find any way to cancel out the radius so they may intend you to use a value of Earth's radius from your text book. Just solve the equation and change it to a percent. I hope that this helps a little. Good Luck I don't see how he oil comes in at all? The question seems to want the… [cont.]

Question about the g string of my guitar?
Q. The g string on all of my electric guitars just don't sound right, the intonation seems to be within the same range as the other strings. Does anyone else have this problem. Its really the only thing keeping my chords from sounding perfect. Is there a way to tune it better or something? Its not the tuner because I have two and its the same for both, I'm probably going to get it professionally set up to see if that helps. I've been doing my own intonation adjustments.

A. You should rephrase your question. More information is needed What do you mean the intonation is within the same range? Do you mean the bridge seems to be set the same as the string next to it? Also, does the string correctly tune to a "g", but then the other fretted notes sound wrong? That would be an indication of an intonation problem. Did this suddenly happen, or has this always been the case? How old are your strings? What guitars so you have? Do they have wammy bars? Are you sure you know how to play chords correctly? Are you sure you know which one is supposed to be the "g" string? Are you using standard tuning: E-A-D-G-B-E? How are you doing your own intonation adjustments? Are you using a strobe light? If you're… [cont.]

How strong is the g force of a blackhole?
Q. What is the g-acceleration (in km/s^2) of a blackhole if light cannot escape it? How fast would an object be falling towards its surface (if it had, idk) if the object strays too close?
Asked by mainrv - Thu Nov 27 03:51:13 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. all depends of it s diamter. but since light cannot escape, even from the smallest possible black hole ( except atom size black holes) the g force would have to be greather than 300,000,000km/s quared
