Is it safe to take a z pack antibiotic during pregnancy?
Q. I am due to give birth in a month, maybe less, and I have a slight ear infection. My gyno said that my regular dr or a walk in clinic will just give me a z pack to take and it shouldn't be a problem, but I've been very cautious about taking meds during my pregnancy. Does anyone have experience taking antibiotics while they were pregnant and did it affect your baby? Can this infection just go away, it does feel a bit better than before. Thanks!

A. If it's just a slight ear infection, I would wait to see if it clear up on its own. Try sleeping on your side with the infected ear up to help with the fluid drainage. You can also see about taking a pregnancy-safe decongestant if necessary. Zithromax is rated as Pregnancy Category B, which means it is considered safe to take in pregnancy. However, Zithromax stays at sub-therapeutic levels in the body for many days after you stop taking it, which can mean that your body (and possibly your baby's) may develop a resistance to the drug and all other antibiotics in the macrolide class. That is something that a lot of doctors don't know--they just like to prescribe Z-packs because they are easy, but it often is not the right choice for the… [cont.]

How do you fix a squeaking la-z-boy recliner?
Q. My la-z-boy recliner squeaks when rocking. It appears to come from the 4 big springs in the rocking mechanism. I applied some wd40 to the springs, but it didn't fix the problem. Any suggestions?

A. Try the spray on Teflon white grease. It comes in a spray can (from Lowes or Home depot)
