I have a small 3m by 3m west-facing 45 degree slope of land which I have just cleared and on which I would like to display some plants. Ideally, I would like it to look okay all year round. Your main considerations may well be more to do with the amount of wind you get across the slope. If it is windy then pick some evergreen low growing shrubs or some of the lower height herbaceous plants if you'd rather have flowers. Shrubs like Hebes are usually a good bet for year round interest as are Cistus (rock rose - great plant on a slope) or dwarf pittasporum. Cornus are also a good choice for year round interest with their colourful stems. Herbaceous plants could include Heucheras, Tiarellas, Stachys or lamiums as they are low growers.
