What was the main reason that led the assassins to kill julius caesar?
Q. I'm trying to do an essay on the assassination of Julius Caesar. The real version, not out of the book by Shakespeare. I was reading the 12 Caesar book but I can't seem to find the main reason, the first reason that set off everyone and started planning the killing. what is the main reason??
Asked by gossip Princess - Sat Nov 21 16:28:26 2009 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments

A. I am a history buff, so I think I know this one. The main reason was probably that the assassins believed Julius Caesar would be crowned king. The Romans had deposed the Etruscan kings hundreds of years earlier and did not want another king. So Brutus and the others believed that Caesar would become a king.

How is Octavius Caesar from Antony and Cleopatra similar to King James I?
Q. I'm doing Antony and Cleopatra in school at the minute, and I was wondering how may similarities there are between Octavius Caesar and King James I. Thanks!
Asked by Louise - Sun Mar 14 07:06:10 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Precious few. If your teacher is trying to tell you that Shakespeare's Romans are Elizabethans or Jacobeans in fancy dress, s/he is doing you a disservice. They are nothing of the sort. For one thing, they are not Christians, and their hopes and fears were entirely bounded by this world. What is more, rebellion against Caesar might be bad for your health, but it was not a mortal sin as was rebellion against James I. Forget these ideas and focus on the ways in which, by concentrating on a non-sacral society, Shakespeare was exploring the consequences of a world like our own.

How to fix caesar dressing that turns out to be too sour?
Q. I made a "close-to-perfect" caesar salad dressing. The only thing was that it was too sour for me (and other people tasted it). I measured the ingredients according to the original recipe, but I never thought that Indonesian lemon can be way more sour than the recipe had anticipated. Can I fix this? I dont want to throw it away since I used the best parmesan cheese found in my town, and it doesnt seem right to just toss it in the trash can. Please help!

A. Do you have to make homemade dressing? If so, you definately have to have a refrigerator. If not, just get romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese (like Kraft, unopened does not have to be refrigerated), croutons, and a bottle of Caesar dressing. That's it!

A. Personality and reputation Caesar was not and is not lovable. His generosity to defeated opponents, magnanimous though it was, did not win their affection. He won his soldiers devotion by the victories that his intellectual ability, applied to warfare, brought them. Yet, though not lovable, Caesar was and is attractive, indeed fascinating. His political achievement required ability, in effect amounting to genius, in several different fields, including administration and generalship besides the minor arts of wire pulling and propaganda. In all these, Caesar was a supreme virtuoso. But if he had not also been something more than this he would not have been the supremely great man that he undoubtedly was. Caesar was great beyond and even… [cont.]

A. If you like tragedies and you especially liked Julius Caesar, you would probably enjoy Antony and Cleopatra. You might also consider including some of histories in your bibliography -- ie. Richard II and III, Henry IV, etc. Other good tragedies are Othello, Hamlet, and Macbeth (The Scottish Play). Here is a complete list of Shakespeare's plays with links to the complete text: Hope this helps.

I keep wanting to try and make my own, but I have yet to try it. A. I'd call the game, "Et Tu, Brute." I suppose you could design a chess set with Marc Antony's army on one side and Brutus's on the other. Geeky, but not exactly trivial enough. You could have people draw cards with quotes from Shakespeare's play and try to match them up with the characters.

A. This is a silly assignment, and under the culture at the time, anyone spinning negativity about Julius would have been crucified. I drove the men who slaughtered my father [Julius Caesar] into exile with a legal order, punishing their crime, and afterwards, when they waged war on the state, I conquered them in two battles. - from deeds of the divine augustus augustus Caesar of Rome was born with the given name Gaius Octavius on September 23, 63 B.C. He took the name Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus (Octavian) in 44 B.C. after the murder of his great uncle, Julius Caesar. In his will Caesar had adopted Octavian and made him his heir. Octavian was a shrewd, brilliant and astute politician. Through cold, hard political calculation he… [cont.]
