What is the percentage composition of nicotine?
Q. Here it is. Nicotine is a compound that contains carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. If a 2.5 g sample of nicotine is burned in oxygen, 6.78 g of carbon dioxide, 1.94 g of water and 0.432 of nitrogen are the products of combustion. What is the percentage composition of nicotine? Guys, I really need your help on this. I m not good in chemistry and I know some of you are. Thanks.

A. just divide total amount of nicotine 2.5g by total product weight..which is 9.152g then multiply by 100 u get... 27.32 %

How to implement scales into composition?
Q. Well i have learnt some scales from my book i have but implementing them into a composition? how do i do that?
Asked by Deacy - Tue Dec 11 03:22:39 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The scales are like the alphabet. And just like "abcdefg" is not a word that means anything, running scales in a composition doesn't say anything musically. The language of music is melody. Use the scale as a group of notes to choose from to make a melody, much like making a word out of a group of letters in Scrabble. Good luck!

How does pH affect the algae community composition?
Q. Hi, could anyone tell me how does pH affect the algae community composition? If possible, pls explain it in details. Thanks. My question's actually asking for how does pH affect the algae composition, for eg, if the pH scale lowers down to become acidic, will some of the algae organisms be killed? Or what happens to the rest of the algaculture? To stay active or inactive? Its growth rate is increased or any other specific things that will take place if the pH scale is moving up or down?
Asked by tictac - Thu Nov 1 13:29:52 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. algae are single celled organisms and they can photosythesize. photosynthesis, the process of producing glucose from air and water, is an enzme controlled process. enzmes are biological catalysts. (catalyst is a chemical that can speed up the rate of a reaction but cannot initiate it.) they are sensitive to pH and usually work in small range of a pH scale. optimum pH is the pH at which a particular enzme works best. since algae produces enzmes, they are indirectly effected by pH.

A. The cheapest methods involve using electrochemical and infrared sensors inside a hand held instrument. There are many for car exhaust analysis. But the most powerful instrument is the Gas Chromatograph for seperation of gases and quantification.

If not, choose a smaller college that is closer to you. As long as you don't choose a community college, you be fine. My one suggestion on picking colleges is that you should avoid Julliard School of Music in New York City because it's impossible for you to get in. Even if you wrote the best composition, they may probably still say no. Julliard is like Harvard, but for music instead. A. You could do something over a twelve bar blues progression. Make up some kind of melody over the chord changes.

A. If you mean petroleum, it is an extraordinary complex mixture of various hydrocarbon molecules, and of various types (aromatic, alkanes, cycloalcanes) with some variants incorporating oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen in their molecules. And yes, it is possible to make synthetic petroleum from nearly anything, with the right equipment. A company is doing it with garbage and offal from a meat processing plant. See link.

A. I took composition & then "advanced composition"... the first class we wrote a different type of essay each week (argumentative, comparative, narrative, etc) and the second class we did pretty much the same thing but with more research & each week's essay was a part of the BIG research paper that was our final... (we had about 6 weeks to work on the final, but pieces were due each week) The specifics will depend on your particular school... Mine used APA formatting, b.t.w. and if you scored out of comp. 1 you might need to figure out the formatting style your school uses & brush up on the details. :)

Is there a quantitative difference in the chemical composition between perfume and cologne?
Q. Most of us agree that women wear perfumes and men wear cologne. But what is the difference in composition of the two? Does one differ markedly in chemical composition? And what is the difference in eau de toilette and parfum or parfume? How would you go about manufacturing cologne or perfume? How would you make scented oils such as patchoulli?

A. Eau de Cologne is Koelnisches wasser, which is a diluted perfume. Parfum is French. One cannot make patchoulli oil: One must extract it from the source and then blend it with many others. To know all the technologies by which perfume has been made over the centuries, you must read a novel, "Perfume," by Patrick Susskind. It is available in cheap paperback from amazon.com.
