A. You may add additional keyboard layouts to any Windows computer. In order to easily type in accent marks ( e e a e c i u e), it is a simple matter to install a keyboard that will allow you to type in accents conveniently. Some people prefer the US International layout, but good typists will find the French Canadian keyboard particularly easy to learn. All the letters are in the same location as on a US keyboard, (which is not the case for some very common letter keys on the French keyboard), although some of the common symbols have been relocated to allow easy access to accent keys, which are assigned to the bracket, apostrophe and slash keys on the right side of the keyboard. (The brackets, apostrophe and slash are still accessible… [cont.]

french alphabets broken up on computer?!!?
Q. I have this french cd from school that I have to study with. However, the french alphabets with accents show up as question marks and my computer can not read it or show it. Anyone know how to fix this? I've already added french to my regional language options through control panel
Asked by chika - Sun Oct 28 02:07:22 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It sounds like the CD embeds Internet Explorer to display text. Sounds like poorly-written software to me. You might try right clicking (clicking with the right mouse button) in the messed up text and seeing if there's a "encoding" option. Under that, select a different encoding. There are three that might work. Both Western European ones (ISO and Windows) and Unicode. Just try changing encodings till you find the right one.

Q. Is French orginal or derived from English alphabets?
Asked by SteveP - Sat Nov 25 07:47:56 2006 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No French is decended from Latin and English is not. The "English" alphabet is actually derived from the Roman (Latin)alphabet. French also uses the Roman alphabet. The French language is decended from a dialect of Latin, but English is not. English is decended from a germanic language, not german but a language distantly related to german.
