Are international aid and relief charities making a positive difference in the world?
Q. I want to donate money to an international aid and relief charity. Are international aid and relief charities making a positive difference in the world?
Asked by Ralph - Tue Jan 23 10:40:41 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This question is right up my alley because I know for certain that the charity I am about to recommend has achieved measurable results. If you want to donate money to an international relief charity, give it to Lions Clubs International (The International Association of Lions Clubs, 300 22nd St, Oak Brook, IL 06523-8890). From the moment Helen Keller appealed to the Lions to become Knights of the Blind in this crusade against blindness in 1925, Lions in America have dedicated themselves to serving the blind and the deaf in their communities and abroad. Now there are Lions Clubs in 190 countries. Through their fund-raising efforts, Lions Clubs International works to eradicate preventable blindness in America and throughout the… [cont.]

How much does someone in international marketing make yearly?
Q. I am doing research on international marketing. I would like to know how much someone in international marketing makes yearly, what schooling requirements are needed and what skills are needed and preferred. Also, do you need to have an internship with an international company? Any information about international marketing would be helpful, as long as the websites are reliable and contain real information.

A. If you're going into international marketing I believe you need to get a masters. It is very competitive in the business world. From what I understand, even more so in other countries. I most likely would not get a marketing degree, I personally would try to get an international business degree with an emphasis in marketing. Most schools actually REQUIRE you to spend at least a semester (whether summer or otherwise) in another country

what is the difference between an international airport and a domestic one?
Q. I mean, let's imagine (maybe it is so) that i.e. Salt Lake City airport is an international airport, but they are actually no international flights, just domestic ones. Is he then still an international airport, even with just domestic flights? Or what does an airport needs to have to be classified "international" (besides customs...)?
Asked by Michael S - Mon Jun 2 13:05:13 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Michael, the only thing that an airport needs to have an "International" label on it is U.S.Customs. Not necessarily for passengers, but for freight shipments. There are many airports that have only domestic flights, but have customs inspectors, so the airport gets the international label. Charleston, WV is one such airport. You can visit its website at the URL below. Regards, Dan

A. Following are some suggestion to give you some ideas to develop: Use speech the president gave Dec 1 Not for war in Afghanistan so would give it satire that was negative. Such as -- After coming back from a long vacation on Spanish Rivera with week were it never rained on the plains of speech coach a very tan GW gave one of the best speeches of his life. Or you could pretend you captain of oil super tanker as you ask the pirates to wait a few minutes before taking over the ship till you buy some oil futures. Or make a CIA sailing travel brochure for sailing off the coast of Iran, and if you really want to push it mention all expenses paid by MASADA.

What will happen to current Dubai International Airport when the new one starts operating?
Q. They have just opened a new terminal at Dubai International and at the same time they are building a huge thing only 35 km away in Jabel Ali called Al-Maktoum International Airport. Does anyone know what would happen to Dubai International when the new one starts working in a few years time? Please dont just say arabs are rich and they've got a lot of money bla de bla de bla. Serious answers only please!

A. It's common in many urban cities and countries to have more than one international airport like the case of Tokyo and London. The Al Maktoum International Airport will complement and expand the operations of the Dubai International. This means that both airports will have specific regional flights to serve. A high speed railway is also planned to connect the two airports. Oh, and note that the expected turnover of the new airport is in 2017, not really a "few year's time".

A. I had a BA degree in Political Science (IR) I had an unpaid internship with an embassy in Washington DC 3 years ago. After my graduation--I had to be a teaching assistant. Then, I go back to do my MPA. Well, you can work for federal, state, local government. However, those jobs are very competitive. Good luck.

A. You don't have to be a citizen. It would just be like going to any other college. You enroll. It doesn't matter where you are home schooled, as long as you get good enough grades to get into the college you want to.

A. Some students go abroad because completing an education in another country or certain countries has prestige and looks good on a resume, but some also do it to learn another language like English (which might also be good for their careers) and to learn about another culture. Going to school in another country might help in immigration if that person is interested in working and/or getting citizenship in that country. Getting an education abroad might also help the person to get a job in that country or at least help them to get a good job in general. In general, studying abroad presents a lot of challenges that have a lot of benefits when students overcome them, like independence, a more worldly perspective, a different outlook on their… [cont.]

Is an international driverss license considered a valid driver's license?
Q. A friend of mine needs to rent a car, but she only has an international driver's license. This is in Minnesota.
Asked by Sar - Sun Jul 20 19:52:37 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Sounds like your friend has been the victim of a scam. There is no such thing as an "International Drivers License" and it is a popular scam for these to be sold on the internet. People from overseas, who want to drive in another country must hold a drivers license in their home country. Then they can obtain an "International Drivers Permit" to use in other countries, but that permit is not valid on its own. So if your friend has only an "International Drivers Permit" it cannot be used. To use it, she would also need her valid license from her country of origin.

I, however, like to report on things people here in America traditionally don't hear about. Any suggestions?

Is it legal to sell international edition textbooks in Ebay and Amazon?
Q. Hi, everyone, I have an international editon textbooks and would like to re-sell it online either on eday or amazon. However, after I have done some book searches, I didn't find any post selling international edition textbooks anymore? Have it become illegal or these websites try to discourage this kind of sale?
Asked by mochris321 - Mon Jul 14 01:05:10 2008 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments

A. The truth is that it is illegal to purchase international books and bring them to the US to sell. The publishers would argue that you are advertising a false product when you list the book for sale as the ISBN of the US edition is different than the International one. In a recent survey done by Campusbooks.com, a textbook price comparison engine, they noted that over 75% of responding students do not have interest in International editions. This doesn't mean you can't sell it, it just means you should be up front and honest that it is an international edition. If you clearly state it in your description then the site you are selling through will post it if they want. eBay and Amazon have deals with the publishers so they crack down on… [cont.]

How do I make an international phone call?
Q. Quick question: How do I make an international phone call to a friends cell phone in Brazil if they do not have international calling access? Is there anyway to do this so I can be charged for the entire amount? I am calling from the United States. Thanks!
Asked by Dave H - Thu Jan 11 15:44:27 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If they don't have international calling access and they are in Brazil - you can't call them. When you are outside the U.S. you have to have a special chip in your phone that allows phone calls. If they don't have it, it won't work. If you do happen to get through, they will be charged for an incoming international call.

Where would an international studies major find the best work in California?
Q. I have recently graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in International studies with a focus on cultural studies and am interested in moving to california. I've always lived on the east coast, specifically a suburb of Washington D.C. and I'm well aware that I could find a lot of work here in D.C, but I would really like to move out of the area in order to experience a new area and I've always liked California, but the only issue is cost. My aunt lives in Hermosa Beach and I've heard that even there it's over priced, so I'd like to find a place that is not quite extremely expensive, yet I could still find a lot of work in my field of study. It would be great if some CA residence could help on my endeaver. Thanks!

A. Honestly, the best places for you to find work in your field is in the San Francisco Bay area or the Los Angeles area. Unless you want to live in a not-so-nice section of these areas, or someplace far away from work, you will have to pay quite a bit for rent.
