Why are most of the worlds in science fiction and fantasy peopled only with white people?
Q. Except for a very few, such as Octavia Butler, Piers Anthony, Nalo Hopkinson and Mercedes Lackey, most writers of speculative fiction behave as though future, parallel and fantasy worlds have lost (or never had) all the non-caucasian peoples. This is very disturbing, especially when they write about future worlds. What do they think has happenned to us?

A. I think a careful reading will note that the race of the people involved is not mentioned. One reason for this, is that science fiction and fantasy writers ignore the problem, or are interested in different things. But another reason is that the problem of race relations gets treated in metaphorical fashion, and the idea of the other gets transplanted to a "alien" race. This is a common sci-fi theme. Another common sci-fi theme, a favorite of Heinlein for example, is to write about how all of mankind will unite in the face of a threat from outer space. Another writer you might read who openly deals with the subject is Samuel Delany. In works such as the Neveryon books, Stars In My Pocket Like Grains Of Sand, and Dhalgren he deals… [cont.]

A. The ineptitude of the bastard is caused by his duplicity of causes. He seeks domination of three worlds without having the requisite wherewithal to master his domestic situation. This causes a designation of software created for a purpose he himself plays part of subversive within. Although efforts are applied and regulations implemented for integration, the contingent group of externally sourced approbates have caused chaotic mayhem. It can rightly be envisaged the entire project will be scrapped through lack of interest and an angered indifference. The miscreants implicated in the present proceedings have caused dissention and division and irreparable damage to morale and faith in any envisable success. To remain on course incentives… [cont.]

why are peopled so Biased over a prime mike tyson?
Q. I was just looking though old questions of joe louis vs mike tyson? rocky Marciano vs mike tyson etc and on each of those questions was people saying they would ko mike? honestly these people are so biased it annoys me... how could joe louis or rocky marciano possibly beat mike tyson...? I honest to god reckon mike tyson in his prime could knock out most of the boxers in history.

A. I understand your sentiment, and tend to agree with you. James Douglas did get credited with a KO of Tyson, but Douglas benefited from a very long count. As far as the Douglas fight goes, Tyson did what had carried him to a perfect record to that point- he hit his opponent hard enough to keep him on the canvas for a full ten count. The big knock on Tyson is that he never got off the canvas to come back and win a fight. Louis, Marciano, and Ali all picked themselves up and came back to win fights. The way boxing evolves, Tyson would have destroyed all three of them. It by no means makes him a better fighter than any of them, it simply means that his boxing style was more evolved. A good fighter now beats a great fighter from 30… [cont.]

A. Hello, As entropy is inherent to all systems, new creations to base theories must be adopted to combat this entropy, or else the system must be allowed to fall. Regardless, the fall is inevitable, as endless improvisation cannot be relied upon for success. Thank you for your question.

A. Just like some people don't like my breed of choice the Basset Hound...not everyone likes all dog breeds. For the same reasons people think Bassets are lazy and useless, I think standard poodles most typically have too much fur and I don't care for the standard show cut, they are too 'frou frou' of a dog for me and too high maintenance. Don't care what other people think, just enjoy loving poodles!

Why do people make fun of others when walking down the street?
Q. Why do people find the need to laugh at someone who's just minding their own business walking down the street? I'm talking about snickering, giving dirty looks, whispering and pointing to their friends to laugh too or making sure that the person sees them laugh. I can't understand why people would do this since the person is not bothering anybody... Why would people do this, since I've seen this rude behavior coming from multiple people? Some people say its because of a lack of self-esteem but isnt that being kind of nice about it? To me it seems just really mean and spiteful.

These individuals that do not believe in God, better known as atheists, that have become temples of the unholy spirit, cannot rid themselves of the burning questions regarding the origins of life. Generally, do others find people on answers more mature and caring than elsewhere on the net?
Q. I have been on other forums and facebook and myspace and generally people there seem more closed minded, immature and less caring. There are so many hate games and immature comments and offending other people going on. I come on here and people are so welcoming and caring, or most people are. Does anyone else find this? Could it do with the age and level of intelligence and life experience. Considering most people on facebook are in their early teens and 20s and not as mature as people on here.

You should read the book value investing. Warren Buffet never want to disclose his secret of investing or the stock that he will be investing in. So what do you think make this people want to share their way of investment, it is because it is easier to make money from you than from the stock market :) If you are willing to pay me $3000 I don;t mind teaching you how to invest in stock :)

Q. I find alot of people judge islam and muslim people when they don't even know what islam is. The media sends out negative messages of islam being a violent faith how can people judge when they don't know what the islamic teaching is. And they don't realise that islam is probably the only religion that is most anti-war and anti-crime. Its very irritating knowing thatso many people have fallen for the media's lies.

A. *Sighs* Sorry, but the media doesn't paint all Muslims as violent; it points out that the extremists are a minority. However, claiming it to be the most anti-war is borderline fallacious; claiming it to be the most anti-crime is a flat-out falsehood. Islamic nations are home to some extreme examples of human rights abuse, especially as regards women's rights.

Q. Why are so many people too lazy to use oil/Alkyd paint? Really, washing your hands and brushes with a bit of Varsol is not a terrible chore. Or here si an idea...toss the god damed brush, they are cheap and not really reusable anyways. Alkyd paint is so much nicer, its thick, water proof, better adhesion, and less prone to wear from foot traffic? Why are people too lazy to wash with varsol and too delicate to handle the fumes? Dont you want your paint job to last? Oh, and on the same note, why are so many people too lazy to prime? I do this kind of work on and off, and it never ceased to amaze me how lazy people are and how much shoddy work they do out of being lazy.

How many people die in an average hospital in one day?
Q. I am going to be volunteering on Saturday nights in the ER at a fairly large hospital. For any ER doctors/nurses or hospital administrators, on *average*, how many people would you say die in a normal ER at one hospital in a single day? How about in the entire hospital (including failed operations and just really sick people)? I guess I just want to know what to expect - are there really several people dying every day (like on TV), or is it more like a handful of people every week?

A. I worked at a large hospital in Texas and we rarely had people dying daily. Most of the ones that died were older people with terminal diseases. There were many weekends that there were no deaths in the ER.

A. I worked at a large hospital in Texas and we rarely had people dying daily. Most of the ones that died were older people with terminal diseases. There were many weekends that there were no deaths in the ER.

Why are there evil people in the world? What causes people to commit evil crimes?
Q. I am writing a journalism piece for my high school newspaper and want to see what people around the world think of criminals who kill for no reason, people who rape for no reason, and people who abuse their children for no reason. What causes these people to hurt others?

A. Well.. each one differs from the other, who doesn't agree at this?! No one. But what makes them different, as in good and bad? This is what you're probably looking at for your journal, except you're referencing to 'evil in human'. Philosophy and Theology once had a debate about the cause of evil in the world like hypothesizing whether it s a metaphysical nature (which competes with goodness) or because of the free will of humankind; simply free will vs. determinism. Many religious beliefs also state that it s because of a devil and his fault; uhh.. Hellooo, is it God s fault then for creating the devil?! All these kinds of debates are boundless, and are based on opinions, like that s what philosophy is, ri? But think about this … [cont.]

Why do people some people consider Cleveland to be a dirty city?
Q. I visited Cleveland last June and really enjoyed myself there. Before planning my trip, I read a couple a travel books and a few personal opinions on a travel site of people who had visited. Quite a few people regarded it as being a dirty city that offered visitors few entertainment sites; however, when I visited I found it to be a really beautiful city--much cleaner than most! Just wondering what people on yahoo answers have to say about Cleveland. Also, not topic related, but, I saw a UFO in Cleveland; that became the highlight of my trip.

A. I've spent quite a bit of time in Cleveland, as my husband has had 2 surgeries requiring extended stays at Cleveland Clinic. Which is one of the best hospitals I've ever seen, by the way. Downtown Cleveland is rather nice. We liked walking around by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Science Center on the water. And restaurant row has some surprisingly good places. We liked the downtown stadium too -- convenient. Nearby Chagrin Falls was a cute town to visit as a day trip. All in all, it's not a bad place to visit for a while. However, driving from downtown to the hospital, we did pass through some less than desirable areas. But all cities have such areas, so we didn't pay much attention. No UFO's for us, sorry. Just my 2… [cont.]

What do people gain by being shouted at and sworn at in the army?
Q. Its like you can have an army bloke ordering you to clean up your bedroom. I heard army people said things like "Clean up your bedroom you skank!" abuse like that. What does it do exactly, does it train people to toughen up to life...? Also, why do the army leader make peoples bedrooms in a mess and make people tidy them up again. What do they gain by tidying up their bedrooms etc?

A. Its all about teaching you to be able to function under pressure and stress. Its a training technique to cause stress. Repeated over and over you become immune to the outside distractions, and focus on the job at hand. Another one is constant repetition. Do it over and over again. In a real world, emergency or combat situation, you will revert to your training and not fall apart under the stress, Just rely on your training and do it the same way you were taught.
