How does your Religion/Spirituality support/contradict your Green Lifestyle?
Q. I am an non believer but very interested in Buddhism. My Permaculture Ethics: Earth Care, People Care and Fair Shares support a green lifestyle. How does your Religion/Spirituality support/contradict your Green Lifestyle?

A. Essentially, most religions have at their core similar precepts. Do onto others, take care of the world around you, love your neighbour as yourself, share your stuff... That kind of thing. Not because we are all copycats, but because those have a tendency to fulfill our needs as the social creatures that we are. We need other humans to survive, on practical, emotional, and intellectual levels. We are therefore empathetic, attempting to learn what upsets others so as to not tic them off and make them go away. It also follows that we extend that to other creatures, moving and not. So most religions are animist and communist, or some variant, or like the more patriarchal Xianity, 'guardians' of the world. It's really supposed to be… [cont.]

How did you come about your religion/spirituality?
Q. Were you born into it? (This really only applies to non-theists. Even atheists have to learn what religion is before denying it. Non-theists have no religious belief) Were you raised that religion? Did you convert? I'm an atheist now. I converted from Methodist Christian after a short stint of experimentation with Wicca. I have a strong interest in all religions, but particularly the teachings of Judaism and Buddhism. I'm very interested in Christian, Catholic, and Hindu mythology.

A. I was born a Christian, but most importantly, my faith grew in Christ as I grew with him. I have my testimony that God exists and has done marvelous things in my life so I cannot deny God's presence and guidance in my life! p.s. Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship one has when they come to Christ, that is, the moment they realize they need God and Christ's forgiveness, love and sacrifice on the cross for us-the Holy Spirit openes their spiritual eyes to see this. Religion teaches "how" to be good and "what" to do to improve self or worship different things created by men, but Christianity teaches the word of God- the Bible that, in spite of all of our iniquities, sufferings, etc... the one and only God loves us… [cont.]

Why are there so many weird questions in the Religion & Spirituality section here?
Q. Is this the section where people with no lives all gather at? I mean, there are the legitimate questions about faith matters and religion, and there's questions regarding irreligion, and often there's troll answers on each type of question. But then there's the ones that are just WAY out there.

A. I think it would be great if we had a format with only legitimate spiritual questions and those interested only in their own entertainment would switch to TV or whatever..I enjoy answering good questions but sometimes I have to pass 10 questions before I find a good one. I often wonder what kind of life many of these people have when they have so much time to devote to bashing others, being totally silly, and being as vulgar as they are able to get away with..God bless

Do you think religion/spirituality does a human more good or bad?
Q. I'm talking about becoming spiritual in general, not "well, if there wasn't God, we wouldn't be here, so it does complete good!", that's not the question. Just if anyone becomes religious in general, do think it will help them more in life or bring them down? Your thoughts? There is no right or wrong answer, and I'll only give thumbs down to non-respectful answers, but besides them I won't put thumbs up or thumbs down.

A. I will answer from personal experience and say that faith in Jesus has definitely done me more good than bad and I'm convinced that everyone I know will agree with me on this one... Prior to putting my trust in Jesus I was a drug dealing, womanising, foul mouthed alcoholic who thought that fun involved going out clubbing, smoking some dope, getting very drunk and taking a different woman home each night. I lived for myself and rarely gave a thought for others at all... Since becoming a Christian all this has changed... Now my life is characterised by the good things that I do rather than the bad. I worked at a homeless drop-in center for several years before heading to Malawi (among the 10 poorest nations in the world) to work as a… [cont.]

Why do some think that "Religion & Spirituality" is forum for religous folks?
Q. After all, it interesting to observe religions. Why do people believe things that have no proof or evidence of existing? And I see this as a forum to observe and discuss the delusion. PS: We do need the religious to study and observe. But they are the objects of study in R&S. Not the the reason for it. IMHO

Q. Whats the difference between the section of Y/A and the religion & spirituality section?
Asked by Astro K? - Tue Jan 27 05:51:56 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Both of the answers above me are correct. One points out that the difference is that anything spiritual or dealing with religion belongs to the other section, but since there is so much hate, discrimination and all that other bad stuff, many people have come to Mythology and Folklore to post their spiritual questions. It's not as aggressive here as it is over there. Even though it is supposed to be about Myths and folklore, becuase it is connected (somewhat) they decided to come over here. I've been over there but don't go too often simply because of hos every answer is ignored unless you are on one of the two sides that are in this "war". O_o Blessed Be, Shadow Storm

Asked by julia - Sun Oct 12 04:14:46 2008 - - 14 Answers - 1 Comments

A. I think it is because they view any sort of afterlife or belief of a higher power as being unrealistic. Just as a religious person views those who don't believe as being wrong... those who don't believe view those who do believe as being wrong. You could say that non believers are more realistic... or you could say that they are just stunted by a lack of sight. You could say that believers are more open minded... or you could say that they are just hopeful(mislead). I believe that there is more than this plane of existence... the spirit is something apart from the body... that much I believe... but what comes after this life on Earth... who knows. Something beautiful maybe. There will always be those that believe one way or the other… [cont.]

How to ask yahoo-team to split this category into "religion"-category and "spirituality"-category?
Q. "Spirituality" is very different from "Religion". There are many spiritual persons who are not involved in any religion. I think that many people need to ask/answer questions about spirituality without being involved in religious beliefs. I think that religous people would feel much more comfortable in a "Religion"-category, only dedicated to religions. On the other hand, many persons need to ask/answer questions about spirituality without getting interferences with religous believers & anti-religious believers. 2 different categories "Religion" & "Spirituality" would certainly help people to find a category where they can get more "reliable" answers. What do you think about this? How can I suggest yahoo-staff to split "religion &… [cont.]

Why are there any atheists in Religion/Spirituality?
Q. If atheists don't believe in God or any god, and don't even believe they have a spiritual life...why are you in here? Is it because you want to tell all us who do believe in a higher power that we're wrong? Seems mighty pointless when you claim to have no experience with either God or your spiritual life and are therefore no expert concerning the topics within this category. Maybe you guys should suggest an atheist category to the yahoo fella's. I assumed I didn't need to mention those atheists who were in the category to legitimately answer/ask questions. Figured it was self explanatory as to the atheists I was talking about. My apologies.

Can religion spirituality or reading the bible help in turning the tables on depression?
Q. This question is specifically for psychiatrists and psychologists or people who studied it. Others' answers will probably not be noticed.
Asked by Anonymous - Wed Apr 4 12:04:55 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Religion... a following can never cure depression in a human being. On the contrary reading sacred scriptures like bible and Bhagavad Gita definitely help. The path of spirituality is best covered reading the Bhagavad Gita... the sacred doctrine put forward by Lord Krishna in the battle of Mahabharata. This one document teaches humanity everything from A-Z. Those who have pursued the teachings of Bhagavad Gita throughout their life were never affected by depression. In the most trying circumstances... cases when people even contemplated committing suicide... the teachings of Bhagavad Gita came to their rescue. Bhagavad Gita is the sum of all that is sacred. And what is Bhagavad Gita? Bhagavad Gita gives what we term as spirituality.… [cont.]

Q. What would be the fate of religion, spirituality and the universe if time travel was invented?
Asked by Walter - Mon Nov 24 22:45:38 2008 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Putting aside for the moment any discussion of the actual possibility of time travel, we can discuss the consequences of time travel. There are several interpretations of the mechanics of time travel. Some models allow the traveler to interfere in the past. Other models do not. Because the Blinovitch Limitation Effect dictates that, if time travel into the past were possible, the traveler could not change the known past, we can concentrate on the traveler as an observer, not a participant. The ability to witness past events, whether as a tourist or through some kind of viewing device (live history on TV?), would change our culture. Although existing religions would either have to be abandoned or severely modified to to… [cont.]
